Between all of the Met Gala facials and the cult-favorite moisturizers, it’s easy to forget that Dr. Barbara Sturm began her career in orthopedics. Part of the team at the Centre for Molecular Orthopedics in Düsseldorf, Sturm helped develop cutting-edge, anti-inflammatory treatments for osteoarthritis and back pain utilizing a patient’s own blood cells to produce proteins that reduce inflammation and stimulate the healing process. The late, great Kobe Bryant was her most famous patient until she leveraged the same technology to create plasma-based creams and aesthetic treatments that address the visible signs of inflammation on some of the most famous faces in the world. Sturm’s latest collaboration is a return to her roots.
“We spend a lot of time taking care of our faces, but tend to neglect our feet because they are so often hidden away. But the skin here is just as important as the skin on the rest of our bodies,” says the German doctor, who has formulated a unique foot spray that launches today in collaboration with an orthopedic-minded shoe collection from Aquazzura. Formulated with witch hazel, which is known for its toning properties, a rejuvenating plankton extract to relieve tired, heavy legs, hyaluronic acid for softer, smoother skin, and noni fruit to deodorize and soothe irritation, the alcohol-free mist is ideal for anyone who spends much of their time on their feet (or those of us who insist on wearing uncomfortable shoes despite the damage they may cause).
Used in tandem with Aquazzura creative director Edgardo Osorio’s summer-ready capsule collection—mules and slides in a sorbet-colored palette made with super soft Nappa leather, crossed and knotted graphic straps, and double padded memory foam insoles for extreme comfort—you can now prolong your time in Osorio’s designs, which are intended to offer a degree of comfort not typically associated with a punishing stiletto. “Every woman needs this,” Osorio insists of the foot spray, touting Sturm’s expertise in luxury skincare—and begging an important question: Is there a full Dr. Sturm foot-care line on the horizon? “There are no plans currently,” insists Sturm. “But you never know what might be in store for the future.”
