Donnell Wallam is the hero as she seals LAST-SECOND win over England amid Gina Rinehart row

Donnell Wallam is the hero as she seals LAST-SECOND win over England on her Diamonds debut as star bounces back after week from hell which saw Gina Rinehart pull $15MILLION funding amid backlash over her father’s Indeginous population remarks

Donnell Wallam has made a dream start to life as a Diamonds player after scoring a last-minute winner to seal an opening test victory over England in Newcastle.

Wallam, 28, has been under the spotlight this week after she expressed discomfort with wearing the brand logo of Gina Rinehart’s Hancock Prospecting, owing to controversial comments her late father made in the 1980s.

Lang Hancock suggested that Indigenous Australians should be sterilised to ‘breed themselves out’ in coming years.

Wallam was supported by her teammates and Rinehart pulled her company’s $15million sponsorship deal with the team, threatening the very existence of Netball Australia.

The fiasco saw all eyes pinned on Wallam in Newcastle on Wednesday night, with the 28-year-old named on the bench to face England, hoping to make her international debut.

Coming onto the court in the fourth term, Wallam received a huge ovation from the Newcastle crowd and there was bedlam when she scored with her very first touch of the game.

But it got even better for Wallam, who scored an incredible lay-up in the final seconds to seal a one-point victory for the Diamonds against their arch rivals, onsetting jubilant scenes in the arena.
