Donald Trump back on Google-owned YouTube: Read the company’s statement – Times of India

Former US president Donald Trump is back on Google-owned video-sharing platform YouTube. Google has reinstated the account as Trump gears up for his 2024 presidential run. The YouTube account of the former US president was banned after the riot at the Capitol Hill in January 2021. Trump is running his third campaign for the White House.
“I’M BACK!” Trump posted on Facebook, weeks after his personal account was reactivated. He posted the same clip on YouTube. Trump also shared an old video clip in which he said: “Sorry to keep you waiting. Complicated business.”
YouTube statement on Trump’s return
“The Donald J. Trump channel is no longer restricted and can upload new content. We carefully evaluated the continued risk of real-world violence, while balancing the chance for voters to hear equally from major national candidates in the run up to an election,” YouTube said in a tweet.

“This channel will continue to be subject to our policies, just like any other channel on YouTube,” the company added. The reinstated Trump account has 2.64 million subscribers and over four thousand videos. In 2020, Trump’s US presidential campaign reportedly spent more than $10 million on digital ads on YouTube.
Donald Trump’s return on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter
Earlier this year, Facebook parent Meta said that it would be restoring Trump ’s personal account, ending the suspension it imposed in the wake of the January 6 insurrection, when Trump’s supporters violently stormed the US Capitol. His access was restored to Facebook and Instagram on February 9, the company confirmed.
Facebook had been both a publicity tool and a crucial source of fundraising revenue for both of Trump’s previous campaigns.
In November last year, Elon Musk reinstated Trump’s Twitter account but he is yet to use it. Trump now uses Truth Social, his own social media app.
