Doja Cat Performed at Kenzo’s Paris Fashion Week Bash
Kenzo is back. The brand, which launched in 1970 under founder Kenzo Takada, has undergone a renaissance after Nigo took the creative reins last year. And his party Friday night showed just how hot the brand is.
Cirque d’Hiver served as the venue. The whimsical, miniature Colosseum, commissioned by Napoleon III and designed by Jacques Ignace Hittorff, boasts a rich history. There, Georges Seurat painted his famed The Circus (1891). In 1955, Richard Avedon photographed Dovima with elephants to create one of his most recognizable images. Decades later, Thierry Mugler used the space for his iconic 20th-anniversary show. Pulitzer Prize-winning poet Elizabeth Bishop even wrote a poem entitled “Cirque d’Hiver.” Kenzo’s party—attended by some of the most influential creatives working today—added to that cultural pedigree.
The theme, like that of the latest collection, was “Kenzo university.” Guests enthusiastically embraced this dress code. The eccentric crowd appeared more like a prep school reunion than a Paris Fashion Week party. Halsey wore a chunky sweater vest. Charli XCX , à la early Britney, sported an oversized white shirt and blue necktie. Tyler the Creator chose a light green cardigan while Pharrell Williams slouched in a denim button-up.
Throbbing music and surreal, red lights produced a vibrant energy. The highlight of the night was an electric performance by Doja Cat. The crowd went wild over such hits as “say so” and “Need to Know.”
