Dog goes viral after eating magic mushrooms
A dog has become an overnight TikTok celebrity after its owner shared a video of it acting “high” after accidentally consuming toxic mushrooms.
A New Hampshire Labrador named Miley redefined “road trip” after she was filmed seemingly nodding off in a car after allegedly eating a bad mushroom.
Footage of the pooch’s purported psychedelic episode racked up nearly 11 million views on TikTok as of Thursday afternoon.
“My dog just ate a wild mushroom and we just spent $140 for the vet to tell us she’s high,” wrote Miley’s owner Shannon alongside a video of the alleged fungal freakout, which was posted Friday.
The trippy clip depicts the intoxicated pooch riding home from the vet in an apparent shroom-inducted stupor. She can be seen spacily hanging her head out the window of the back seat while Afroman’s “Because I Got High” plays in the background. Shannon later joked in the comments that her pet was the “most relaxed she’s ever been.”
Social media was unsurprisingly in stitches over Miley’s purported hallucinogenic journey.
“The girl knows how to party,” exclaimed one fur fan of the doggo.
Another joked, “he’s realising his name backwards is god.”
One commenter even called Miley “Snoop Dog” in reference to the iconic rapper’s alleged love of certain mind-altering substances.
The dog owner told Newsweek that she first noticed something was awry after noticing her pup exhibiting bizarre behaviour while they were at the family cottage in New Hampshire.
“In the morning she peed the bed which she hasn’t done in eight years,” explained Shannon. “We also noticed her back legs weren’t working properly and she was walking weird, she was extremely lethargic, she refused food and treats and wouldn’t get up to do anything, even a boat ride, which is her favourite.”
She later rushed Miley to the veterinarian, who said her symptoms were consistent with eating wild mushrooms. Shannon suspected that her canine had consumed one of the many fungi that had flourished amid the heavy rains at her country house this year.
Thankfully, the doctors determined that Miley’s vitals were stable, and let her relieved owner take her home that day, provided she monitor the dog for a urinary tract infection – the telltale sign that the toxin had affected her kidneys.
“She was extra sleepy that night and a little clingier than usual but totally back to normal by Monday morning,” said Shannon.
Miley was lucky she experienced only a minor high, as ingesting these trippy truffles can prove fatal for dogs. In perhaps the most famous case in 2015, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson was forced to put down his French bulldog Brutus after the pooch suffered life-threatening complications from consuming a poisonous fungi.
“As all puppies and dogs do, he ate a mushroom while playing outside with his brother Hobbs,” the actor lamented on Instagram. “This mushroom happened to have a lethal toxicity and within hours it was rapidly destroying his liver and immune system to the point of no return.”
