Djokovic’s hidden racquet detail says it all

Novak Djokovic has a chance to create history at the US Open, and a cheeky detail on his racquet proves why he’s the best in the world.

Novak Djokovic is undoubtedly a heavy favourite for the US Open crown in the men’s section of the draw, but it wouldn’t be just any regular grand slam win.

The 34-year-old is on track to achieve the calendar-year gran slam, should he be the last man standing after all is said and done at Flushing Meadows.

Djokovic swept aside the competition at this year’s editions of the Australian Open, French Open and Wimbledon, and only five matches stand between him and a calendar year grand slam.

The Serbian star has also given himself a timely reminder of his mind-boggling success, with a hidden message printed on the inside of his tennis racquet.

Each time Novak steps on to the court at Arthur Ashe Stadium, he’ll have a timely reminder of just how long he’s been at the top of the tennis mountain for.

The message reads: “311 weeks and counting.”

Djokovic became world number one for the first time in 2011, but with Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal experiencing a plethora of injury concerns in recent years, it’s paved the way for Djokovic to assert his dominance in men’s tennis.

Since winning the Australian Open in 2010, Federer has won just four grand slam titles.

Nadal has enjoyed more success than his Swiss counterpart, but nowhere near as much as Djokovic, who was won eight of the last twelve grand slam tournaments on offer.

Djokovic’s next hurdle to overcome at the US Open comes in the form of Kei Nishikori in the third round.

The Japanese star has already beaten Djokovic in New York, as the 31-year-old defeat the Serbian in the US Open semi-finals in 2014.
