Divya Dutta remembers Irrfan Khan, says, ‘I wish Babil all the very best for his debut; I am sure he will make his father proud’ – Times of India

It has been three years since Irrfan Khan left for his heavenly abode and there has never been a day when the ace actor is not remembered. Today on his death anniversary, ETimes spoke to his co-star from several films, Divya Dutta who reminisced working with him, shared her fondest memories with him and also wished his son Babil ahead of his Bollywood debut. Excerpts…

It has been two years since the untimely demise of Irrfan Khan.
I don’t actually believe the fact that he is not there. I think his magnanimous presence in the movies, the legacy that he has left, and the relevance of it throughout, will not let anyone feel he is not around.

You are one of the fortunate actors who have worked with him. What do you think sets him apart from others?
I think everyone has their own distinct style. However, what set Irrfan Khan apart was his impromptu style. The sheer magic he created just in that moment. This showed in his work. It was very natural and straight from the heart. And to add to it, the smile that he had in his eyes. He made an impact by just looking into the camera. It was amazing. He had a style that was subtle and effortless. There was something really romantic about all his performances.

Irrfan Khan has been a part of some content-oriented and performance-driven films in his career. Do you think he would have enjoyed this phase of OTT where content has become the king?
He was definitely somebody who loved to experiment with his work. He would have loved the OTT bloom. As far as I know, he was working on something. It would have been a privilege to watch him on OTT too. But now his films are there on OTT and that way I think he has made his presence felt.

Tell us about your fondest memories with Irrfan Khan.
I will always remember him for his shy smile and his great sense of humour. I miss having conversations with him every third or fourth day. He has left a mark on all of us. He lives in our hearts and will continue to do so.

His son Babil Khan is all set to make his big Bollywood debut with ‘Qala’. Would you like to share some encouraging words for the young lad?
I would love to wish Babil all the very best. Of course he already has the nuances, the skills and the reflection of his father. I am sure he will certainly make him proud.
