Director James Mangold reveals link between Harrison Ford’s ‘Indiana Jones and the Dial Of Destiny’ and Hugh Jackman’s ‘Logan’ | English Movie News – Times of India

Harrison Ford is bidding farewell to one of his most iconic roles with the fifth instalment of his classic action-adventure film ‘Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny‘. As the film hits theatres worldwide today, the 80-year-old star got together with his director James Mangold and co-stars Phoebe Waller-Bridge and Mads Mikkelsen for a global press conference attended by ETimes, where they got candid about the film and more.
During the discussion, the director was asked if the link between Dial of Destiny and Logan was the same. “When I’ve worked within the world of franchises, the thing that scares me most is I don’t want to be making just a chapter in the middle of a mega-expensive series,” the director began and went on to add, “I’m pretty old-fashioned myself, and I kind of like the idea of a beginning, middle, and end to this particular story, and all the other ways it routes and connects to what’s come before are wonderful but still there’s this very old-fashioned idea of the kind of the integrity of the thing itself.”

He went on to explain, “In Logan, I knew we were making the last one, but it was a character who had spent almost all of his life tortured, a kind of Frankenstein living in a world where his choices were to be a weapon or to somehow try and hide from everybody. And so, death seemed, in a way, to be a kind of salvation for him.”

Comparing Logan’s journey to Jones’ he added, “The Indiana Jones films, was led by Harrison’s performance all these years. What is it to be someone who’s led such a dynamic life? The questions can sound grim but they also are the first chapters in a story about a guy who goes on one last ride. So, that to me all seemed really interesting.”

“Although the externals are the same with Logan, which was that this is about – his awakening. It is about a character coming out of a slumber, having been numbed by the way the world has maybe passed him by.”

The film starts with a digitally de-aged Ford, created with help from artificial intelligence, fighting Nazis to secure one-half of classical inventor Archimedes’ dial of destiny.
For the remainder of ‘Dial of Destiny’, the older Jones pursues the other half of the dial with help from goddaughter Helena (Phoebe Waller-Bridge) and her sidekick, Teddy (Ethan Isidore).
