Dior’s first fashion show in India; will it have Indian models? – Times of India
The designer label has picked the historic Gateway of India monument for its next fashion show. It is scheduled to take place on March 30 according to fashion portal Business of Fashion, which was founded by Imran Amed in 2007.
The Dior show will be set amidst the backdrop of the historic Gateway of India. Maria Grazia Chiuri has been long associating with a Mumbai-based atelier and craftsmanship school for women called Chanakya International, which is owned by Karishma Swali. Most of the embroidery work seen on leading brands like Dior or Gucci happen in Mumbai but not many are aware of it.
With the Dior showcase in Mumbai, the fashion world will take note of Indian fashion more seriously.
Chiuri was quoted by BoF on her show in India. “For me to show in India means also to celebrate the heritage of India in embroidery and how important [it is] in the fashion world.”
Indian market is currently thriving and western brands are looking for clients and buyers from India and this move by Dior is only going to get them more Indian buyers. It would also be interesting to see the faces Maria Grazia Chiuri will pick for her show in India.
