Dindoshi sessions court reserves order on Kangana Ranaut’s plea to transfer Javed Akhtar’s defamation case – Times of India

Kangana Ranaut had approached the Dindoshi sessions court under section 408 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC) to transfer the defamation case against her filed by lyricist Javed Akhtar. According to reports, the plea was heard by Additional Sessions Judge Shridhar Bhosle on February 25, and the court has reserved its order on her application. The court will be delivering the order on March 9, reports India Today.

In January, Kangana had filed a fresh plea challenging the sessions court order, seeking transfer of all her legal proceedings, citing that the Andheri court has harmed her image. The actress had approached the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate stating that the charges made against her were ‘bailable, non-cognisable, and compoundable’. She alleged that the Andheri Court ‘misused the power’ to cause injury to her reputation even before her trial.

In response, Javed Akhtar’s advocate Jay K Bharadwaj had said that Kangana’s motive is to delay the proceedings by filing various petitions and to harass his client who has been appearing before the Andheri Magistrate court despite being a senior citizen.

Javed Akhtar had filed a defamation complaint against Kangana Ranaut in November 2020, for allegedly making defamatory and baseless comments against him on a television interview. The actress filed a counter complaint alleging extortion and criminal intimidation.
