Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol starrer ‘Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge’ is one of the most iconic and loved films we have in Bollywood. The film is what made SRK the most romantic superstars of all time. However, did you know that he almost wasn’t a part of the film?
Yes, you read that right! ‘The Romantics’ director Smriti Mundhra revealed how SHah Rukh had to be convinced to do a romantic movie. According to her, sometimes we take for granted how these films come together. Hearing about the intentionality of all those decisions was really interesting. From Yash Chopra taking Amitabh Bachchan from ‘Deewar’ to ‘Kabhi Kabhie’ to a similar thing happening with Shah Rukh Khan between ‘Darr and DDLJ’ and later Saif Ali Khan’s rise as a multiplex idol. It’s interesting because one would have never thought of those influences on peoples careers. There are a lot of things that she found interesting, Smriti told Mid Day.

She also went on to talk about how Yash Raj Films changed the way people looked at weddings in India. The director has also included Yash Chopra’s wedding footage in her docu-series. Spilling some beans on the same, she said that it was incredible because when they watched that footage even she couldn’t believe that they would be able to use that. Seeing all the stars and guessing who is who!

Further, she added that the first thing after conceptualising this project was, she knew in order to do justice she would need access not only to the film and music but as much behind the scenes material as possible. The first place she went to was YRF and tried to get their blessings for this project. Smriti revealed that thankfully they were excited and accommodating and they opened up the archives.
