Dhoni-Gavaskar autograph moment compared to Roger Federer-Jackie Stewart incident

It was an emotional moment for cricket fans. One legend, Sunil Gavaskar, rushing to get the autograph of another legend, MS Dhoni. The incident happened at Chepauk Stadium after CSK-KKR match. And it led to comparisons to a recent happening that unfolded between Roger Federer and Jackie Stewart at the recent Miami Grand Prix.

The incident occurred when Formula One legend Sir Jackie Stewart ignored security to get tennis hero Federer’s attention for the commentator Martin Brundle, also a Formula One racing driver.

“There was a great scene last week at Miami Grand Prix. Jackie Stewart went through the ropes to get Roger Federer to be interviewed by the host broadcaster. A great of the great pulling another great of the game,” said Gavaskar’s fellow commentor Kevin Pietersen on Star Sports.

Post match, Sunil Gavaskar revealed the reason behind such an impulsive action from his side.

Speaking on Star Sports, Sunil Gavaskar said, “When I got to know about Chennai Super Kings and MS Dhoni are going to take a lap of honour at Chepauk, I decided to create a special memory. That’s why I ran towards MSD to take his autograph. It was his last home game at Chepauk. Of course, he will get a chance to play here if CSK qualifies for the playoffs. But I decided to make that moment special. I was fortunate enough that someone in the camera unit had a marker pen. So, I am thankful to that person as well.”

“Who doesn’t love him? What he has done for Indian cricket over the years, it has been amazing. For me, the most important thing is the kind of role model he has been. So many youngsters in India look up to him. The way he has handled himself has been absolutely fantastic,” added Gavaskar.

CSK lost the match to KKR. The Kolkata side chased down 145, riding on half-centuries from Rinku Singh and skipper Nitish Rana.
