Dharmendra recalls his recent conversations with Lata Mangeshkar, says it felt like ‘she wanted to run away from loneliness’ – Times of India

Family, friends and fans of Lata Mangeshkar are still mourning the loss of the legendary singer last week. The Nightingale of India left for her heavenly abode on early hours of Sunday, February 6, after almost a month-long struggle with COVID-19 and pneumonia.

Family and friends are sharing their personal anecdotes with Lata ji that will forever remain etched in their memory. Veteran actor Dharmendra too recalled how he would always stop and listen whenever Lata ji’s songs were being played. He shared that he was so excited when she sang the song ‘Aap Ki Nazron Ne Samjha’ for him, he wrote letters to everyone. While speaking at Aaj Tak’s ode to Lata Mangeshkar, Dharmendra said, “We would talk a lot, especially in the last few years. It felt that she wanted to run away from loneliness.”

Speaking to ETimes earlier, Dharmendra had shared how the news of her demise made him uncomfortable. “I got ready not once but three times to go for Didi’s last rites. But every time, I pulled myself back. I didn’t want to see her leaving us,” he said.

Lata Mangeshkar was cremated with full state honours at Shivaji Park. Several prominent personalities including PM Narendra Modi, Shah Rukh Khan, Sachin Tendulkar and many others paid their last respects to Bharat Ratna Lata ji.
