Designer Sarah Staudinger Shares Her Insider’s Guide to Cannes
After checking into the hotel, Staudinger hit up a few of her favorite restaurants for a bite. On her list? La Colombe D’Or Hotel and Restaurant, and La Petite Maison, the French-Mediterranean hotspot that actually catered Staudinger’s wedding. “I always try to have a meal [there] when I’m back in town,” Staudinger says. Of course, no trip to Cannes would be complete without some shopping either. “The fashion mood in Cannes is refined, effortless, chic, and nostalgic,” says Staudinger. As for what to wear, her advice is simple: “overpack.” Staundinger hit up classic Cannes shops like Forville Market, La Verrerie de Biot for glass wear, and Chapellerie Tesi for perfect beach hats. “It’s been around since the late 1800s,” says Staudinger.
Later in the week—when she wasn’t heading to a screening—Staudinger continued the cultural outings with a visit to Fondation Maeght and Musée Bonnard. “It’s the only museum in the world dedicated to the post-impressionist Pierre Bonnard,” says Staudinger, who is a fan of the artist’s work. She also made time for a quick jaunt over to the Île Saint-Honorat, a “wild and beautiful island” just a short ferry ride from the port of Cannes. “When the festival madness is happening, this island provides a breather.”
At the end of a jam-packed schedule, Staudinger suggests ending the week in Cannes with a wellness moment—aka, a visit from Nora Ouari Pjanic. “Nora is a concierge nurse that performs everything from lymphatic massage to IV drips and vitamin shots,” says Staudinger. “Nora is an insider secret in the South of France.”
Now that the Cannes Film Festival is coming to a wrap, however, the designer says she’s heading right back to the design studio. “One of the highlights was leaving the red carpet and going straight through customs at the airport in my custom Staud look,” she says. “The skirt weighed a million pounds and all the security alarms kept going off. It was a fitting end for a wild week.”
