Demaryius Thomas’ family believes seizures contributed to his death

Former Denver Broncos wide receiver Demaryius Thomas was found dead in his home this week. The widely respected 10-year NFL veteran was just 33 years old.

He was set to turn 34 on Christmas Day.

By all accounts, Thomas had been dealing with a private medical issue for some time now.

“He had been suffering from seizures for over a year, and we believe he had a seizure when he was showering,” LaTonya Bonseigneur, a first cousin who grew up with Thomas, told the Associated Press. “We’re not sure when he died. We just spoke with him yesterday.”

Thomas was apparently alone at the time of his passing.

“He was alone and a friend couldn’t get hold of him, so he called his driver, who has a key because of these seizures, and he went into his home and found him in the shower,” Bonseigneur added.

Over the course of his professional career Thomas played for the Broncos, Houston Texans and New York Jets. In that time he accumulated 724 catches for 9,763 yards and 63 touchdowns.

Thomas’ most memorable years, however, came with one particular team – the Broncos. Thomas put together an incredible run that saw him record at least 90 receptions and 1,000 yards over the course of five straight seasons.
