New Delhi, December 10

Delhi’s Yash Dhull has been tasked to lead the Indian team at the upcoming Under-19 Asia Cup, which will begin in the UAE from December 23. The BCCI further announced that there will be a preparatory camp for the 20-member squad plus five standby players at the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru.

“The selectors have also announced a 25-member squad for a preparatory camp at the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru from December 11th-19th ahead of the ACC event,” the BCCI said in a statement.

A top-order batter, Dhull plays for the Capital’s Airliner Academy and also for Delhi Capitals’ academy side. He scored 302 at an average of 75.50 in the Vinoo Mankad Trophy earlier this year.

When asked whether he was under pressure after being heralded into a leadership role, Dhull said there were no nerves. “It is a normal situation,” Dhull told The Tribune. “I am happy and proud that I have been appointed as the captain but I have led many teams in grade cricket previously. Even recently I was given the charge in two matches with the selectors watching,” he added.

Dhull’s father, Vijay, called it a big honour. “We are all very happy. We had some hints that Yash may be asked to lead and it was confirmed in the morning,” Vijay, who is a manager in a private firm, said.

Dhull further said that he is yet to get in touch with VVS Laxman, who is heading the NCA. “We haven’t had the time to get in touch. It will happen tomorrow when we will all go to the NCA,” Dhull said.
