Delhi Police has launched an e-FIR app enabling people to instantly lodge complaints for ‘house theft’ and ‘burglary’.

Delhi Police has launched an e-FIR app where people will be able to instantly lodge complaints for ‘house theft’ and ‘burglary’. This will help police to quickly solve such cases. Delhi Police Commissioner Rakesh Asthana said that the immediate online lodging of the FIR for the stolen property in Delhi through web facilities will help investigation officers to dispose of cases in a timely manner and hence reduce pendency of cases at police stations and courts.

With the Delhi Police e-FIR app, people can register FIRs and receive a copy of the same instantly without physically going to a police station. Special Commissioner of Police (Crime) Devesh Chandra Srivastva said, “These transformations — hassle-free registration and speedy investigation and systematic documentation — have made the life of citizens simpler”.

Delhi Police e-FIR app enables filing of complaints from anywhere

The app will make the complaints filing process easier as it can be lodged anywhere at any time without actually going to a police station.

Once the complaint will be registered on the app, an FIR will be lodged at an e-police station established under the Crime Branch and has jurisdiction all over Delhi. Also, a copy of digitally signed FIR will be immediately sent to the email-id of the complainant, area SHO, senior officers, designated court, police said. The app will also guide concerned investigating officers to complete investigation and documentation along with management Information system (MIS) for analysis and to take preventive measures.

According to the senior police officer, users can also access this application on the official website of Delhi Police www.Delhipolice.Nic.In. The application can be found under the Citizen Services tab.

Delhi Police e-FIR portal: How it works

The first-time users for the app will be required to first register themselves by using an active mobile phone number and an email id. ONce the details will be submitted, a One-Time-Password (OTP) will be sent to the user’s mobile and email respectively.

Not only the public, but investigating officers (IO) too will have a user-id with password (OTP) to log in to the module carrying folder(s) of FIR(s). Assigned IO will receive a system-generated OTP to access each FIR folder every time.

The assigned IO will further contact the complainant within 24 hours, and obtain signatures on the printout copy of FIR. He/she will then visit the crime scene and if required call DMCT or other forensic help.

After the IO’s visit, SHO and other senior officers will be informed to conduct further enquiry. A site plan will be prepared, statements of complainant and witness will be recorded and evidence will be collected. Once done, officials will investigate and try to identify the culprit and trace the stolen property.

IOs will also be responsible to update the complainant about the progress in the case from time to time.
