David Moyes heaps praise on Said Benrahma after scoring winner against his former club Brentford
David Moyes heaps praise on Said Benrahma after scoring winner against his former club Brentford in the FA Cup… as West Ham boss insists he’s ‘thrilled’ to get vengeance on Thomas Frank’s side
David Moyes hopes Said Benrahma’s sensational strike against his former club Brentford will prove the magic moment that West Ham needed to get their season back on track.
Substitute Benrahma’s second-half winner from 25 yards handed the Hammers victory over the team that defeated them 2-0 in the Premier League last week.
It was West Ham’s first win in any competition since November 3 and with a trip to fellow strugglers Wolves next in the league, Moyes said: ‘We’ve got something to build on. Hopefully we can get back on track.

Algerian winger Said Benrahma scored against his former club to earn Hammers the win
‘This was a tough draw and we had them last week in the league. We’re thrilled to be through. I said last week in the press conference: “We could do with someone scoring a screamer.”
‘Said definitely did that. Said has done this in different games – he’s come off the bench and been an impact. We saw at the World Cup how much the substitutes made a difference. Thankfully Said did it for us. I could’ve easily have started him. But he came on and scored a terrific goal.’
Benrahma’s goal started with a terrific tackle from Declan Rice in midfield to pinch possession and Moyes reserved special praise for his captain, who played another full 90.

Brentford boss Thomas Frank refused to become the latest manager to complain about referees, despite some home supporters feeling Rice’s tackle was a foul on Yoane Wissa.
‘I guess I back Andre (Marriner, the referee) and the VAR room to get that right,’ Frank said. ‘No complaints. I don’t think it was a clear foul. We have four, five players behind the ball and shooting from 25 yards… it was a good strike from Said.’
In better news for Brentford, Ivan Toney is set to return to full training after this weekend.
