The Green Bay Packers and star wide receiver Davante Adams are not on track to agree on a contract extension before the start of the regular season.
The contract situation between Davante Adams and the Green Bay Packers does not appear to have changed any over training camp.
Reporters asked Adams on Wednesday if there was a chance he’d get a contract extension done before Sunday’s opener against the Saints.
“No. No chance,” Adams replied per Rob Demovsky of ESPN.

Reporting from Ian Rapoport earlier this summer suggested contract talks between Adams and the team broke off, calling the sides in a “bad place” going into training camp.
At that time, Green Bay’s drama with Aaron Rodgers was still very much in the air. Since then, the quarterback has come back to the team, but it’s still clear his tenure with the Packers may not last.
Adams’ positioning for a contract extension is interesting given the Rodgers situation. He’s rightfully looking to be the highest-paid receiver in the game. At the same time, his incentive to remain in Green Bay, aside from the potential money, is tricky.
If Rodgers leaves in 2022, after Adams locked in with a new deal, the receiver will face life with Jordan Love throwing him passes. No offense to Love, but that’s a clear downgrade.
Failing to get a deal done before the opener doesn’t mean the Packers and Adams couldn’t eventually agree to something. It’s a fluid situation that’ll come into better focus as the season progresses.
