Dasara movie review highlights: Nani and Keerthy Suresh starrer’s first half sets up the story that’s to come – Times of India

Directed by debutant director Srikanth Odela, Dasara starring Nani, Keerthy Suresh, and Shine Tom Chacko, hit screens this Friday.
Dharani (Nani), Suri (Deekshith Shetty) and Vennela (Keerthy Suresh) are friends since childhood. They live in the village of Veerlapally where drinking is not just an addiction; it’s tradition – thanks to the Silk Bar everyone frequents, even if not everyone is allowed to step inside. Everyone seems to be covered with a layer of soot at all times. Dharani and Suri make money from stealing coal off moving trains. Local politics between Rajanna (Saikumar), Shivanna(Samuthirakani) and the latter’s son Chinna Nambi (Shine Tom Chacko) threaten to disrupt their lives.

The film sees music by Santosh Narayanan, cinematography by Sathyan Sooryan, editing by Naveen Nooli with writing by Jella Srinath, Arjuna Paturi and Vamsi Krishna P apart from Srikanth. The first half of the film takes its own sweet time setting up the characters. What starts off as a love story soon gets intertwined into something more. The first half of Dasara, especially the interval sequence, is like a slow burn. You wait for something explosive and it comes, just now how you predict it to.
With the first half of the film getting into the thick of things, it remains to be seen how the second half will fare.
