dark souls servers down: PC servers of these video games have been taken offline, here’s why – Times of India

The PC servers of Dark Souls 3, Dark Souls 2 and Dark Souls: Remastered could be vulnerable to a cyberattack due to an exploit that’s been discovered, as per a report by Gamespot. Taking cognisance of the vulnerability, FromSoftware Inc. the developer of Dark Souls, has taken all the online servers for Dark Souls on PC offline and set about investigating the issue. As per the report, the exploit could allow hackers to take control of the players’ PCs.
The official Twitter account of Dark Souls posted about the servers being deactivated.
“PvP servers for Dark Souls 3, Dark Souls 2, and Dark Souls: Remastered have been temporarily deactivated to allow the team to investigate recent reports of an issue with online services.
Servers for Dark Souls: PtDE will join them shortly.
We apologize for this inconvenience.”

According to a report by VGC, the exploit in the games has been there for some time and was first reported by a Dark Souls 3 streamer who goes by the name of ‘The_Grim_Sleeper’. But the streamer got no reply from the developers. Then, the streamer tried another tack, and reportedly “streamed the exploit and took over his own PC, using a narration app to read out some text to prove how easy it was to control the system remotely” which brought the issue to the attention of the developers.
