Daniel Rioli’s girlfriend breaks silence on infamous nightclub brawl

Australian DJ Paris Lawrence has spoken publicly about the infamous nightclub fight involving Richmond stars Daniel Rioli and Shai Bolton.

Rioli required stitches to his face following the altercation at a Melbourne nightclub that made headlines back in May, while Bolton was sidelined for several weeks after fracturing his wrist in the incident.

According to reports, Rioli stepped in to protect his girlfriend and was punched in the face before Bolton intervened.

“Things happen and sometimes you can’t help the situations you’re put into,” Lawrence told The Herald Sun this week.

“The important thing is, Daniel and I have each other’s backs, and we support each other.

“It is what it is. But it’s all good now. We’ve moved past that. We didn’t listen to the news, social media or anything online. We knew what happened.”

According to the Tigers, the incident occurred after Rioli’s girlfriend was subjected to “inappropriate behaviour” from a patron.

“An altercation took place after Rioli’s girlfriend was subjected to inappropriate behaviour,” the Tigers said in a statement.

“Rioli was punched after confronting the patron and suffered a cut under his eye that required two stitches. Bolton became involved in the ensuing altercation and sustained a fractured wrist that will require surgery.”

Richmond boss Brendon Gale declared Bolton and Rioli would not be punished for their involvement in the fight as the Tigers maintained they were not in the wrong.

“A player’s partner was put in an inappropriate situation that she didn’t feel comfortable with, and Daniel (Rioli) stood up and tried to eradicate the situation,” Tigers coach Damien Hardwick told Fox Footy’s AFL 360.

“I don’t condone violence, but the reality is, put anyone in that situation, they’re going to stand up for their partner and their mates.”

However, the AFL handed Bolton a $20,000 fine after an investigation overruled the Tigers’ decision, revealing the 22-year-old’s actions during the incident had “exacerbated the situation”.

Rioli and Lawrence recently celebrated six months together.

“Daniel has introduced me to AFL. He’s taught me all the rules. I didn’t know anything about the game before meeting Daniel,” Lawrence told The Herald Sun.

“But I love how fast-paced AFL is. I watch games all the time now.

“I like good vibes and happy times,’ she said. “I want to see people happy, especially with the times we’re going through right now. I like to get all my ladies dancing.”
