Former Norwich boss Daniel Farke has been announced as the new head coach of Russian Premier League club Krasnodar, just two months from being sacked by the Premier League club.

Farke led Norwich to two Championship titles but struggled to maintain winning ways both times the Canaries were promoted to the Premier League during his reign.

Farke was let go from Norwich in November 2021 after a difficult start to the season which saw the club lose 15 consecutive Premier League games- a record losing streak for a club or manager in English top-flight history.

The German manager enjoyed tremendous Championship success with the Canaries, achieving a club-record of 97 points in his second season, which subsequently saw him named EFL championship manager of the year.

Russian Premier League club Krasnodar will be hoping that Farke can lead them to an inaugural top-flight victory.

Krasnodar are currently fifth in the Russian Premier League table and just nine points behind title leaders Zenit St Petersburg.

‘I would like to thank the president of the club Sergey Galitsky for the trust in me and my staff,’ Farke said in a statement on Krasnodar’s official Twitter feed.

‘We have made the decision together to join this wonderful and modern club with a bright sporting future.

‘Many decisions we have accepted in the past by relying on instinct, this time a positive feeling came from the beginning.

‘We are looking forward to meeting the team. A great advantage, of course, is that the RPL restarts at the end of February and that gives us the opportunity to actively work for five weeks.’

The Russian club, who are based in southern Russia, was founded in 2008 by Russian billionaire businessman Galitsky.

Just two years after the club was founded, the Bulls were promoted into the top-flight where they have remained since.

Krasnodar have finished third in the Russian Premier League on three occasions and have reached the final of the Russian Cup once. They have also made the last-16 of the Europa League twice.

In the 2020-21 season, Krasnodar did not have as much success as previous years and struggled to advance above mid-table before finishing in a comparatively disappointing 10th place.

This poor run of form saw Murad Musayev resign as manager in April 2021. He was was replaced by Viktor Goncharenko who signed a contract until the summer of 2023.

Eight months later Farke has been called in to save the day to try and close in on that top spot and win some silverware.

Farke will take his coaching staff with him to Russia, with assistant coach Eddie Riemer, coach and analyst Christopher John and head of fitness Chris Domogalla all making the move.

Krasnodar boast high-profile players such as French midfielder Remy Cabella (previously at Newcastle and Marseille) and Swedish winger Viktor Claesson.

The Bulls are currently on a winter training camp out in Dubai while the Russian Premier League is on the winter break.

Farke’s first competitive game in charge of his new club will be on Sunday, February 27 when Krasnodar face Lokomotiv Moscow.
