Dan Walker warns cyclists after bike crash – ‘The helmet I was wearing saved my life’

Broadcaster Dan Walker has said he is “glad to be alive” after he was hit by a car while riding his bike.

The 45-year-old former BBC Breakfast presenter tweeted a series of images of his bloodied and bruised face while sitting in an ambulance.

He also shared selfies with the NHS staff who were caring for him.

Walker was knocked off his bike on Monday morning, leaving his face swollen but without any serious injuries.

It is not clear where Walker was struck by a car but he tweeted his selfie from inside a Yorkshire Ambulance Service vehicle with two paramedics.

“Bit of an accident this morning,” he tweeted.

“Glad to be alive after getting hit by a car on my bike.

“Face is a mess but I don’t think anything is broken.

“Thanks to Shaun and Jamie for sorting me out and the lovely copper at the scene.”

Hours later, Walker gave his fans an update saying the helmet he was wearing saved his life.

He warned other bike users to “get one on your head”.

“Smashed my watch and phone, ruined my trousers, my bike is a mess but I’m still here,” he tweeted.

Thanking everyone for their kindness, he said he was home from hospital where he was receiving treatment and “eating soup through a straw”.
