Damian Lillard says he’s ‘amazed people could know so much and so little’
Damian Lillard says he’s ‘amazed people could know so much and so little’ as Heat trade talks continue to amplify for Blazers star
Damian Lillard offered a cryptic message Thursday night as trade talks continue to heat up (pun intended) for the Blazers star.
Lillard finally requested a trade away from Portland earlier this week, but has made life difficult for his longtime squad with a one-team list of the Miami Heat, as The Athletic’s Shams Charania reported.
But Lillard has apparently taken issue with some of the reporting regarding the trade talks.
‘I’m amazed,’ he tweeted Thursday night to his 3.2million followers.
When a fan asked why, he responded, ‘At how people could know so much and so little at the same time.’
Damian Lillard requested a trade away from the Portland Trail Blazers earlier this week
While Lillard’s trade request is old news at this point, his remarks come the same day as ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski laid out the measures the star’s agent was employing to shrink his trade market.
According to Wojnarowksi, Lillard’s agent Aaron Goodwin is ‘telling organizations outside of Miami that trading for Lillard is trading for an unhappy player.’
Contrarily, Blazers GM Joe Cronin is reportedly willing to accept whatever offer is the best, and doesn’t plan to ‘dutifully deliver’ Lillard to the Heat.
The Nets were also initially named by Charania as a candidate to acquire Lillard, but his apparent steadfastness to go to Miami – not to mention the $121million that he’ll be owed between 2025-27 alone – has made Brooklyn seem an unlikely landing spot.
However, the Nets may still play a role in getting Lillard to Miami, as a third team will almost certainly be required to take on Tyler Herro and his four-year, $120million deal that begins this year.
Lillard has spent his entire 11-year career in Portland to date after being drafted in 2012
With the Blazers said to be uninterested in Herro, the Nets could get a 20-point per game scorer at a discount by helping facilitate Lillard to Miami.
Several reporters, including ESPN’s Brian Windhorst, have said the Nets are interested in the former Kentucky star.
As for the Heat, they can offer a maximum of two-first round picks and five years of first-round pick swaps.
Players like Duncan Robinson and Kyle Lowry could also be involved, and so too could recent 2023 draft pick Jaime Jaquez Jr. – though the former UCLA Bruin couldn’t be moved until July 31.
Lillard, a seven-time All-Star, has spent his entire 11-year career in Portland and has a career average of 25.2 points per game.
He’ll turn 33 on July 15, but averaged a career-best 32.2 points per game in 58 games last year.
