Damian Lillard puts Blazers on notice to ‘do something significant’

Damian Lillard has been with the Portland Trail Blazers ever since they selected him with the sixth overall pick in the 2012 NBA Draft. He’s been a superstar for Portland and a true leader for the organization on and off the floor. Despite all of his success and the fact that the Trail Blazers have been relevant — he doesn’t have one single ring to his name.

Now at 32 years old and coming off a 33-49 campaign that saw Portland finish last in the Northwest Division and miss the playoffs for the third time in his career, Lillard seemingly thinks its put-up-or-shut-up time for the Trail Blazers front office.

It’s either time for them to go all-in, or perhaps it could be time to blow things up for the sake of both parties.

Speaking with noted talking head Stephen A. Smith on Wednesday (h/t Oregon Live), the seven-time All-Star wanted to make it clear that he wasn’t threatening Portland, but he needs something significant to happen this offseason.

Stephen A. asked him if the Blazers were on the clock.

“It’s not a threat. I’m not gonna say I’m putting them on a clock. I’m just saying, if those things can’t be done, if we can’t do something significant like that, then we won’t have a chance to compete on that level. And then not only will I have a decision to make, but I think the organization will too,” Lillard explained. “Because at that point it’s like, are you going to go young or are we going to get something done?”
