Dallas Cowboys end 34-year drought as fans go bonkers over instant classic

NFL fans went nuts over a wild finish between the Patriots and the Cowboys, as Dallas ended a lengthy wait with a cheeky final act.

As Dallas Cowboys wide receiver CeeDee Lamb ran in the game-winning touchdown against the New England Patriots in overtime, NFL fans were going berserk over an instant classic.

After 34 years of pain, the Cowboys’ win over the Patriots was the first time the side had taken the spoils against New England on its home turf since 1987, and broke a 15-year drought since Dallas last beat Bill Belichick’s team.

The match was a back-and-forth affair throughout all four quarters. The Patriots led 14-10 at halftime, as rookie quarterback Mac Jones looked to get his first win in Foxborough since being drafted earlier this year.

However, the Cowboys took the lead in the third quarter and were up 17-14 with the final quarter to play.

The game sprung into life as the Patriots put up 15 points and Dallas notched 12 to even the scores at 29 apiece at the end of regulation time.

But with 3:57 left on the clock in overtime, Cowboys play-caller Dak Prescott dropped back, wheeled away to his right and threw up an absolute dime that was caught by Lamb, who cheekily waved at the chasing defender as he danced his way into the end zone for a 35-yard touchdown.

The crazy finish had fans going wild on social media, as they watched the Patriots fall to yet another defeat.

Morning reporter Haley Bouley tweeted: “Sheeeeesh what a game.”

Sports journalist Matthew Tabeek wrote: “That Cowboys-Patriots game was a crazy fun game to watch.”

American news producer Robert Bennett tweeted: “That last part of the #DALvsNE game … heck of a game.”

Former NFL quarterback Babe Laufenberg posted: “Man. If you don’t like NFL football, we can’t be friends.”

Reporter Ashley Baylor wrote: “I’m not sure I can work after this game.”

For Patriots supporters, their woes at home were compounded with the latest loss as they slumped to an 0-6 record since fans were allowed back into Gillette Stadium.

Adding to their horror run of late, New England coach Belichick was 109-2 when leading at halftime at the Patriots’ home ground, but is 0-2 in that department this season.

Since Tom Brady departed Foxborough for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, the Patriots have failed to replicate the insane success experienced with the veteran quarterback at the helm.

In 2020, the Pats missed the playoffs for the first time since 2008 as Cam Newton took the snaps and finished the season with a 7-9 record.

With Jones leading the offence on the field in 2021, the Pats aren’t faring much better and are 2-4.
