Daizen Maeda on chats with Kyogo which helped make up Celtic transfer decision

CELTIC new boy Daizen Maeda has revealed that Kyogo helped convince him to sign at Parkhead.

The Japanese striker joined Ange Postecoglou’s side officially yesterday, alongside fellow J-League stars Reo Hatate and Yosuke Ideguchi.

Maeda – a striker – has initially joined on loan until the summer, with the Hoops then obligated to make the deal a permanent move.

Postecoglou has already enjoyed success with dipping into the Japanese market – where he used to manage with Yokohama F. Marinos – with Kyogo scoring 16-goals already this term.

And Maeda has revealed that chats with the pacey attacker helped to bring him to Glasgow.

He told Celtic TV: “Kyogo has been playing really well, and I have to do even better to be successful. I will try my best.

“When I met him at the international team, I was asking him about Celtic and he was telling me lots of good things about Celtic so I am really looking forward to it.

“Kyogo is doing very well and in the past there was Shunsuke Nakamura, so of course there is a lot of interest in Japan.I hope there will be more support in Japan now.”

Postecoglou has previously worked with new signing Maeda from his time at Yokohama.

And Maeda is looking forward to reigniting the relationship.

He added: “I know the manager from before so I’m really looking forward to it.

“He’s always playing attacking football so I’m looking forward to playing that again with him.

“My strength is my speed. I like to use my speed to attack opponents and try to get as many goals as possible.”
