Pollard: We weren’t so sure, so happy that I lost the toss. Rohit is okay he’ll be fine sooner rather than later, I’m just the captain for today. We started a couple of months back. Rohit misses out, Hardik is not playing as well. Anmolpreet makes his debut, that’s about it, all others are regular players.

Dhoni: We will bat first, looks like I good wicket. Setting a target will be a better option. It’s the same for everyone. I can’t say if it’s a good break or not. Once the tournament starts, you get into some sort of rhythm but this season it’s new and maybe us cricketers will start loving it. Seven games, then a break, and seven more. The CSK opener returned from CPL 2021 with a groin injury having missed the last three matches including the final for St Lucia Kings. Earlier, CSK CEO said that a call will be taken after an injury assessment before the match. AS for Dwayne Bravo, he misses out due to a groin injury.

“Faf du Plessis has passed the fitness test and he is also prepared for selection in playing in XI,” Kasi Viswanathan told InsideSport.

CSK vs MI LIVE in IPL 2021 – Faf Du Plessis Update: CSK CEO Kasi Viswanathan said that he joined the team’s practice and looked comfortable but Robin Uthappa had been kept on standby as the backup option. However, Sam Curran is not available as he is serving a six-day quarantine having arrived in Dubai on Wednesday.

CSK vs MI LIVE in IPL 2021: Why is Faf du Plessis doubtful for MI clash?

• Faf Du Plessis hasn’t had any practice since suffering the groin injury last week othe than the session with CSK on Saturday.
• He has missed three CPL matches including the final.
• A groin injury is treated generally with rest and a week of it isn’t considered enough.
• After a week of rest, Du Plessis will take the field, if fully fit, on Sunday and depending on injury assessment, a call will be taken.
• Robin Uthappa has been kept on standby if Du Plessis doesn’t recover on time as a precautionary measure.

CSK vs MI IPL 2021 – Faf Du Plessis Update: Faf du Plessis, CSK’s top-scorer in IPL 2021 Phase 1, have had struggled after a concussion during the PSL 2021. He missed the remaining PSL matches while also pulling out of The Hundred. As a result, his form dipped too. But just when he started to regain form with a century against St Kitts and Nevis Patriots and followed that up with an 84 against Barbados Royals, Du Plessis suffered a groin injury, ruling him out of the remainder CPL 2021.

As groin injury could take 4-6 weeks to recover, even with a Grade 1 injury, it is expected to take Faf Du Plessis another week to recover. As per sports medicine specialists, the best way recovery method for groin injury is to rest. The CSK opener has had just a week of rest so far and that period is rather short for recovery.

“He is in isolation as arrived only last night. Once he is out, we will assess his injury and then take a call accordingly. But there is no need to worry right now,” Kasi Viswanathan told InsideSport.co.

Against the defending champions, missing Du Plessis will be a big blow as he was in red-hot form in the tournament amassing 277 runs. He was also the leading run-scorer for CSK in IPL 2021. He scored 320 runs in seven matches with a best of 95* at an average of 64.00 and a strike rate of 145.45. He also smashed four fifties in those matches. But if he fails to recover Ruturaj Gaikwad will have a new partner i.e Robin Uthappa.

CSK vs MI IPL 2021: Since joining CSK from Rajasthan Royals in a trade deal, the former KKR star has warmed the bench. But he has been put on standby with clouds over Faf Du Plessis’ availability.
