Crystal Palace dealt huge blow as Michael Olise sustains severe hamstring tear
Crystal Palace dealt huge blow as Michael Olise suffers severe hamstring tear playing for France U21s… with winger set to miss start of new season
- Michael Olise suffered the hamstring injury playing at Under-21 Euros
- Frenchman has sustained the most severe tear possible – a grade three level
- Only three players created more goals than Olise in the Premier League last term
Crystal Palace have been dealt a major blow with Michael Olise suffering a serious hamstring injury while on international duty.
In a big setback for Palace ahead of the forthcoming campaign, tests have revealed winger Olise suffered a grade three tear – the most severe – sparking fears he will be sidelined for a number of months, a lay-off which would rule him out for the start of the new season.
Olise was hurt while playing for France in the Under-21 Euros, sustaining the injury in his left leg following a collision with Norway goalkeeper Kristoffer Klaesson and not long after scoring what proved to be the game’s winning goal.
Olise was in obvious pain as he was substituted and had to be helped off the pitch.
He was subsequently ruled out of the rest of the tournament and dropped out of the France squad.

The injury brought a premature end to an impressive campaign for Olise and has left Palace hoping he is a quick healer to limit the amount of time he spends out of action.
The 21-year-old established himself as one of Palace’s key performers, setting up 11 goals and scoring two in 40 appearances in all competitions for the south London side and winning the players’ player of the season award.
Only three players created more Premier League goals than Olise last season while no player under 21 in Europe’s top five leagues finished the season with more assists than Palace’s No 7.
