Crude bombs hurled at BJP MP Arjun Singh’s residence in West Bengal

Crude bombs were hurled outside BJP MP Arjun Singh’s residence in North 24 Parganas district’s Bhatpara area in the wee hours of Wednesday. At least three crude bombs were lobbed at the gate of the residence, but no one was injured, according to West Bengal Police. Two persons have been detained in connection with the incident, it said.

The police reached Singh’s home in the morning and started investigations. Bike-borne miscreants allegedly hurled the bombs at the entrance to the house, which is guarded by central security, said people aware of the matter.

“Trinamool miscreants have attacked my house. I will fight against it,” said Singh, who was in Delhi when the incident occurred.

The police said it has examined the area and deployed personnel around the house. A case has been registered against unknown miscreants, it said.

Governor Jagdeep Dhankhar took to Twitter and expressed his concern about the incident and the law and order situation in the state. “Wanton violence in West Bengal shows no sign of abating. Bomb explosions as this morning outside the residence of Member Parliament Arjun Singh is worrisome on law and order. Expect prompt action West Bengal Police. As regards his security the issue has earlier been flagged,” he tweeted.

The president of the BJP’s state unit, Dilip Ghosh, said, “We have appointed Arjun Singh as the observer in Bhabanipur (from where chief minister Mamata Banerjee is contesting) and a bombing started by Trinamool in front of his house. Are they scared of him?”

Singh further said, “Trinamool is afraid of me. I am not worried about my protection but about the security of the common people.”

Meanwhile, another BJP MP, Jagannath Sarkar, was allegedly attacked in Nadia district. He said he will discuss the matter with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union home minister Amit Shah and also President Ramnath Kovind. The BJP said more than nine workers were also injured during the attack.
