Cricketer Ajit Agarkar appointed chairman of Senior Men’s Selection Committee

The Senior Men’s Selection Committee now consists of Ajit Agarkar (Chairperson), Shiv Sundar Das, Subroto Banerjee, Salil Ankola, and Sridharan Sharath.

“The former India all-rounder represented the country in 26 Tests, 191 ODIs, and four T20Is, in addition to playing 110 first-class, 270 List A, and 62 T20 matches. As a former fast bowler, he was part of India’s victorious squad in the inaugural T20 World Cup held in South Africa in 2007,” BCCI said in a release.

“He still holds the record for the fastest half-century by an Indian batter in ODI, achieved with a 21-ball fifty against Zimbabwe in 2000. He also held the record for being the fastest to reach 50 ODI wickets for nearly a decade, accomplishing the milestone in just 23 matches,” the release added.

Ends BCCI’s headache 

BCCI was searching for a candidate for the selection panel since the previous chairman Chetan Sharma had to step down from his position after a sting operation that revealed that Team India all-rounder Hardik Pandya is a frequent visitor to his residence. In the video, Chetan Sharma can be heard claiming that Team India players are taking injections to stay fit.

The appointment of Ajit Agarkar comes at a crucial juncture as Team India is recovering from the massive defeat in World Test Championship Finals and is preparing for the ICC World Cup 2023 in October-November.

The selections in the upcoming tournaments will be crucial and watched closely by the world as Team India is expected to go with some fresh faces.
