Cowboys owner Jerry Jones will NOT be fined for dressing up as a BLIND referee for Halloween

Jerry Jones will not be punished by the NFL over his ‘blind ref’ Halloween costume, despite league rules forbidding team personnel from criticizing officials. 

The billionaire Cowboys owner was pictured on Instagram dressed as a blind NFL referee with a striped shirt, whistle, and a guide cane.

‘Oh yeah, I had the cane and everything,’ Jones told Sports Illustrated. ‘And I used it on some people, too.’

On Wednesday, an NFL spokesman told DailyMail.com that Jones is not expected to be punished.

A 2019 league memo bans ‘comments regarding the quality of officiating, individual calls or missed calls, the League’s officiating department, an officiating crew, or an individual game official; [a]ccusing game officials of acting with bias or in any way questioning the integrity of NFL game officials; or [p]osting negative or derogatory/demeaning content pertaining to officiating on social media.’

The image was posted on Instagram by Jones’ niece, Keri Chambers.  

Traditionally mocked as the ‘No Fun League,’ the NFL has famously enforced its rules to the letter of the law by penalizing and fining players for perceived instances of poor sportsmanship.

However, Jones’ son and Cowboys CEO Stephen Jones, said he believed the NFL would have a sense of humor over the costume. 

‘They have a very difficult job in real time,’ Stephen Jones told ‘The K&C Masterpiece’ Monday. ‘I do think they understand you can have some humor with this stuff, but I can’t imagine they don’t think there’s nothing but respect that comes out of the Cowboys organization in terms of how difficult their job is and what a good job they do, as well.’

The Cowboys are currently 6-2 and recently got quarterback Dak Prescott from a hand injury.

The NFL has not issued any statement on the costume.
