The efficacy of boosters against COVID-19 is likely to decline over the next few months and people may need another shot in the fall of 2022, Moderna Inc Chief Executive Officer Stephane Bancel said at a Goldman Sachs-organized healthcare conference on Thursday. Bancel said the company is working on a vaccine candidate tailored to the Omicron variant of the coronavirus, but is unlikely to be available in the next two months. “I still believe we’re going to need boosters in the fall of ’22 and forward,” Bancel said.

Activate control rooms, monitor those in home isolation, says government
- Aiming to ensure strict monitoring of Covid-19 patients under home isolation, the Centre has advised states to activate all Covid control rooms at the district and sub-district level to collate the daily status report of patients under home isolation and submit a report to the district administration.
Omicron slams UK retail recovery
- Restrictions imposed in the wake of the Omicron coronavirus variant have “wiped out” much of a recent recovery enjoyed by UK bricks-and-mortar stores, the British Retail Consortium revealed Friday.
- Much of the progress made in late 2021 “was wiped out in December as surging Omicron cases and new work-from-home advice deterred many from shopping in-store, particularly in towns and city centres”, noted BRC chief executive Helen Dickinson.

- The UN Security Council will meet behind closed doors Monday to discuss the testing of what North Korea said was a hypersonic missile, according to diplomatic sources.
- The meeting was requested by the United States, France and the United Kingdom — three of the five permanent members on the Security Council — as well as Ireland and Albania, the sources said Thursday.
