Conor McGregor mocks rival Kamaru Usman after his shock defeat to Leon Edwards at UFC 278 

Conor McGregor has mocked rival Kamaru Usman after his shock defeat to Leon Edwards at UFC 278. 

Usman was knocked by a resurgent Edwards in Salt Lake City as the Brit claimed the welterweight title with a stunning performance. 

Writing on social media after the bout, McGregor mocked Usman for his defeat and said that the Nigerian-American fighter ‘leaned into his own death’.

‘Not even a relatively high kick. Fully leaned into his own death. One leaned his way to victory. Another leaned his way to death. Crazy sport, I love!’ he wrote. 

Usman was on the receiving end of a brutal kick from Edwards who avenged his 2015 defeat to the fighter. 

The 35-year-old was on a 15-fight unbeaten streak and was the much fancied favourite heading into the bout.

‘Usman gonna come out saying he from Pluto after that smack hahah Marty green pants from Pluto,’ McGregor quipped after the knock out.

The Irishman then dished out some choice words for the fighter, saying that the ‘t*** got t******’. 

‘Mi no lika the boi no sleep dem man hahahaha t*** got t******,’ he wrote. 

Meanwhile, Edwards said after the fight that he was doubted by all but that he hae emerged from the ‘trenches’ and was built for situations such as that in Salt Lake City on Saturday night.

‘You all doubted me, saying I couldn’t do it – look at me now,’ said Edwards.

‘I’m from the trenches. I’m built like this. I’ve been doubted my whole life but look at me now.’ 

‘I was born in Jamaica with nothing. I lived in a wooden shed with a zinc roof. Look at me now,’ he added.

‘Pound for pound, head shot, dead. That’s it. I said it’s possible, we can win a belt from the UK, I told you.’
