Conor McGregor claims Tyson Fury ‘bottled it’ at Canelo Alvarez v Billy Joe Saunders fight

‘What were you doing there?’: Conor McGregor takes swipe at Tyson Fury… suggesting the Gypsy King ‘bottled it’ in an apparent reference to the attack on Billy Joe Saunders’ dad last year

  • Tyson Fury praised former UFC star Khabib Nurmagomedov earlier this month
  • Conor McGregor, who had a bitter rivalry with Khabib, has now hit out at Fury
  • He claimed the Gypsy King ‘bottled it’ when Tom Saunders was attacked last May

Conor McGregor has aimed a dig at Tyson Fury after the Gypsy King praised UFC rival Khabib Nurmagomedov.

Earlier this month, WBC champion Fury tweeted: ‘This man did it right. Got in & won & got out on top. Big respect @TeamKhabib.’

It appears that McGregor – who is currently holidaying in the Bahamas – could not let this slide without getting in a reply.

‘Yup the Joyces. Big Joe ! U bottled it with Billy joe Da , what were you doing there ?’ the Irishman said.

‘ULeft him, Versace t*** U.Done.Nothing. Ya’s did it right ye right hahahahaaj. Even when I’m wrong i’m right. Who did it right ? The Mac daddy tonight, in house. Miami d12! Bahamas #skyjuice’.

McGregor’s response seems to be in reference to the attack on Billy Joe Saunders’ in Texas last year.

Saunders lost to Canelo Alvarez in May 2021 and after the fight his father Tom Saunders tried to get to his son in the ring.

As a melee ensued, Fury looked to try and calm the situation involving Tom Saunders and security

However, he was violently pushed to the ground by a member of security, leading to a brawl breaking out with other members of Saunders’ team.

Fury, a close friend of Saunders, was in the group but did not physically get involved in the altercation – instead trying to verbally defuse the situation – hence McGregor’s accusation that he ‘bottled it’.

There has historically been little bad blood between McGregor and Fury, but the tone of Notorious’ tweet seems to come from the fact that Fury was praising Khabib.

The Irishman’s feud with Nurmagomedov is one of UFC’s longest-running and most bitter rivalries, with the pair’s fight at UFC 229 being the most-bought event in the promotion’s history.

Khabib tapped out McGregor in the fourth round in Las Vegas and the two have not met in the cage since.

The Russian has now retired, while rumours continue to circulate about McGregor’s possible return after he broke his leg against Dustin Poirier last year.

Meanwhile, eyes will be peeled to see if Fury decides to hit back at Notorious.
