Chiume paid tribute to the late veteran jazz singer, who passed away on Tuesday at the age of 50.
In one of his first public engagements as Arts and Culture Minister, Zizi Kodwa visited Chiume’s home in Kempton Park on Wednesday.
He vowed to address the struggles that some of the country’s entertainment and live-performing artists face.
Mam Connie, as she’s affectionately known, said that Bosman joined the growing list of talented musicians and thespians whose work was often lost in history because of the government’s failure to preserve our cultural heritage.
“I don’t know what is happening in our country but it’s so sad that we are losing such talented people in our country who could have still continued to contribute. We are so sad that we lost one of our icons, the type of person who respected the arts so much, the person who went to school for it and sacrificed time. Her songs will be sung in times to come.”
#ZiziKodwa: “I must admit as a country and probably as the goverment we have not appreciated the role of arts and culture.”
