Commonwealth Games: Indian athletes Avinash Sable and Priyanka Goswami win silver medals in their respective events

In Commonwealth Games today, Indian athletes have won two silver medals. In 3000 meter Steeplechase run, Avinash Sable won silver clocking a new National Record of 8 min 11 point two seconds. The second medal was won by Priyanka Goswami in Women’s 10,000 meter Race Walk.
In Boxing India’s Amit Panghal entered the final of men’s flyweight and Nitu Ghanghas progressed into the final of women’s minimum weight category, assuring India of two medals in the sport.
India was assured of three medals in Wrestling also. Ravi Dahiya defeated Pakistan’s Ali Asad in men’s 57 kg semi-final and assured at least a silver for the country. In men’s 74 kg category, Naveen defeated England’s Charlie Bowling in the semi-final and in women’s 53 kg freestyle Vinesh Phogat entered the final. She defeated Mercy Bolafunaoluwa of Nigeria. Wrestler Pooja Gehlot lost to Canada’s Madison Parks in women’s 50 kg semi-final
In Badminton, P V Sindhu sailed into the semi-finals defeating Malaysia’s Jin Wei Goh by 19-21, 21-14, 21-18.
In Table Tennis, in Men’s Singles Quarter-Final, India’s Achanta Sharath Kamal defeated Singapore Yong Izaac Quek 4-0 to enter the semi-finals.
In Cricket, India set the target of 165 runs for England in the 1st Semi-Final of women’s T20I cricket at Edgbaston. Earlier Indian captain Harmanpreet won the toss and elected to bat first. Smriti Mandhana slammed the fastest fifty for India in 23-balls, catapulting India to a strong start. India won the toss and opted to bat.
The Men’s hockey team will battle it out against South Africa in the semi-finals. Para table tennis player Bhavina Patel will square off in the gold medal match.
President Droupadi Murmu has congratulated Priyanka Goswami for winning silver in race walking at Commonwealth Games. In a tweet, Ms. Murmu said, becoming the first Indian woman to win a medal in race walking Priyanka Goswami has opened a new chapter of achievements. She said, her feat will inspire millions, especially the girls.
President Droupadi Murmu has also congratulated Avinash Sable for winning silver in Steeplechase at Commonwealth Games. In a tweet, Ms. Murmu said, Avinash Sable has been consistently raising his level of performance which is an inspiring aspect of his success. She conveyed best wishes to him for his future endeavours.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has congratulated national race walking champion Priyanka Goswami for winning the coveted Silver medal at the Commonwealth Games. In a tweet, Mr. Modi said, with this medal, she has inspired many youngsters in India to take up this sport. He hoped that Priyanka Goswami will keep scaling new heights of success in the times to come.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has also congratulated Avinash Sable on winning Silver Medal. In a tweet, Mr Modi said, Avinash Sable is a remarkable youngster and he is delighted he has won the Silver Medal in the men’s 3000 metres Steeplechase event. The Prime Minister also shared his recent interaction with Avinash Sable where he spoke about his association with the Army and how he overcame many obstacles. Mr Modi said, his life journey is very motivating.
