Brandolini d’Adda intends to keep the collection small, and the relationship with her customers quite personal and private. For now she has no desire to venture into any grandiose retail scheme, and she isn’t after any validation from the fashion world. “I do not do seasonal, I do not plan to do presentations or shows; I want to keep it intimate, as it’s something that comes from the heart,” she said. “I’d like to have the luxury of not following the rules of the market.”
Asked about her personal style, Brandolini d’Adda said, “it always evolves, as it’s really individual; you may like it or not but it’s my own, it’s who I am. It doesn’t have any specific reference.” After prodding her to dig a little deeper, she conceded: “Well, my grandmother Cristiana is the one I talk to,I value her advice greatly. She’s 95, but still gorgeous, a great aesthete, eccentric, and she has lived an extraordinary life—the grand balls, Cecil Beaton, a life that today seems impossibly fabulous. But what I love most about her is that she’s open to the new, she’s witty and curious about everything going on in the world and in fashion, and the most important is that she’s never judgmental. Seeing her proud of what I’m doing gives me great joy and confidence.”
