CM Punk set for RETURN! The former WWE star ‘wants back in’ to AEW after being axed
CM Punk is keen to return to All Elite Wrestling action, according to reports, although a final decision on the star’s future set to come from CEO Tony Khan.
The two-time champion has been out of action since being axed following a back-stage brawl in September.
Punk brawled with the Young Bucks and Kenny Omega after a media scrum, with the ex-WWE wrestler axed as a result.
As well as competing in AEW, Omega and the Young Bucks (Matt and Nick Jackson) also serve as executive vice-chairmen at the company.
Whether or not the 44-year-old is open to a return, though, is largely irrelevant as the final say would need to come from Khan.

The decision to let the 44-year-old back into the fold would lie with AEW CEO Tony Khan
However, a Wrestling Observer Radio report claims that a decision on the two-time champion’s future is set to be made at some point, and Punk is just about ready to get back into the action.
He notably suffered a torn triceps injury that has kept him on the sidelines in the wake of the infamous brawl, but is thought to have recovered from surgery and put himself in a good position for a sensational return.
Punk had criticised both Omega and The Young Bucks and accused them of being ‘irresponsible people’ who ‘couldn’t manage a Target’.
Punk would also go on to throw shade on several other AEW talent, and it led to a backstage fight dubbed ‘Brawl Out’ that is still shrouded in secrecy, with the names involved unable to speak publicly about the incident.
However, speaking on an episode of The Sessions with Renee Paquette in February, Omega did address the incident and confirmed that the full details of what happened will never be known.
‘It’s a shame that the general public and other people aren’t ever going to know what went down and how it could have been prevented and ended differently,’ the former AEW World Champion said.
Kenny Omega clashed with Punk following his remarks in the post-show media press conference
‘I don’t think anyone is happy that it happened or is proud that it happened, or anything like that. I think across the board everybody thinks it was a terrible situation that wasn’t necessary.’
Following the incident, all involved were suspended, although Ace Steel – who sided with Punk – was fired.
The current AEW World Trios champion believes that the locker-room is now a better place, but admits the hardest thing was not being able to share what really happened with everyone.
Omega added: ‘I think for a while there was this confusion. Because people were like, hey we know this thing happened, we heard this thing happened, it’s all over the dirt sheets – why don’t we know what happened.
‘We’re gone and sworn to secrecy, we can’t say anything – legally. So, that was the poopy part, where everyone was like, why doesn’t anyone tell us what’s happening and then your forced to come up with your own opinion or theory to what exactly happened.
The current AEW Trios champ says it’s a shame no one will ever know what really happened
‘Especially when it’s like, I’m more of a fan of one person than the other, so here’s the way I’m going to create the story so it puts this person in the best possible light.
‘It might be that, chances are it’s something else, or might be a combination of various theories and we might never get to speak about it.
‘What’s important is knowing that no one was seriously injured emerging from that, and I’m so thankful for that, and that we’ve moved on with life.
‘I’m completely fine, it doesn’t dictate what I do, what I say, I’m sure The Bucks are in the same boat. I can’t speak to the other parties, hopefully they are doing well, and I mean that, but that’s it.’
