Clemson running back entering transfer portal shakes up Tigers depth chart

The Clemson football team suffers another blow with Lyn-J Dixon entering the transfer portal.

After three weeks into the 2021 season, running back Lyn-J Dixon has seen enough with the Clemson football team.

Last year’s backup running back to Travis Etienne has decided to enter the transfer portal. Dixon had fallen out of favor with running backs coach and Clemson legend C.J. Spiller. He was held out of the first half of Clemson’s opener against Georgia. With promising five-star recruit Will Shipley on campus and taking playing time away from him, Dixon fell down the depth chart.

Not having Dixon available for the rest of the season challenges the depth at the position behind Shipley and Kobe Pace.

Dixon is set to graduate in December and should have options in the transfer portal.

Lyn-J Dixon enters transfer portal: Where could Clemson football star end up?

Dixon was a former four-star recruit out of Butler, Georgia in the 2018 recruiting class. He had 19 official offers coming out of high school but picked Clemson over the likes of Alabama, Florida, Oklahoma State and Tennessee. Keep in mind that his primary recruiter to Clemson is offensive coordinator Tony Elliott. He could be coaching somewhere else next season.

Assuming he does not play another down for Clemson, Dixon would have two years of eligibility left with last year not counting if he wants it to be that way. Keep an eye on Oklahoma State, as Mike Gundy is still there and that was the only other place he took an official visit. Tennessee is an interesting landing spot too, as there may be ample opportunities for him to play going forward.
