Cincinnati prosecutors ‘request for charges against Joe Mixon to be DROPPED’

Cincinnati prosecutors ‘request for charges against Joe Mixon to be DROPPED’ following an arrest warrant being issued for the Bengals running back after he allegedly pointed a firearm at a woman

The charges against Cincinnati Bengals running back Joe Mixon reportedly have been requested to be dropped by the city prosecutors office.

An arrest warrant was issued for Mixon on Thursday on account of aggravated menacing after he allegedly pointed a firearm at a woman on January 21 but the city prosecutors office now wishes to drop the charges, according to Newsradio 700 WLW.

Hamilton County Municipal Court Presiding Judge Curt Kissinger has said that he will dismiss the charges but only once he is sure the alleged victim in the case has been notified.

It is unclear why prosecutors have asked for the charges to be dismissed but Mixon’s agent Peter Schaffer had hit back Thursday night, saying the charges would be dropped on Friday.

He also said that police rushed to judgement in the case, which reportedly involved a road rage incident downtown Cincinnati.

‘It was a rush judgement,’ Schaffer said via NFL Network reporter Tom Pelissero. ‘They’re dropping the charges first thing in the morning.

‘I really feel the police have an obligation before they file charges – because of the damage that can be done to the person’s reputation – to do their work. They should be held to a higher standard because I don’t play with people’s lives.’

Court documents say Mixon allegedly pointed a firearm at a woman on January 21 and said: ‘You should be popped in the face, I should shoot you, the police can’t get me.’

It is unclear if the woman has recanted her claim or if a private settlement has been reached between the parties.

January 21 was the day before the Bengals beat the Buffalo Bills 27-10 in the playoffs.

If Mixon is convicted, he could face up to 180 days in jail and fined according to Ohio’s state laws.

The Bengals said in a statement Thursday: ‘The club is aware misdemeanor charges have been raised against Joe Mixon. The club is investigating the situation and will not comment further at this time.’

The 26-year-old Mixon has just completed his sixth season in the NFL. The Bengals were eliminated from the playoffs on Sunday, losing 23-20 to the Kansas City Chiefs, who advance to the Super Bowl to play the Philadelphia Eagles.

The incident allegedly occurred the day before Mixon played for the Bengals against the Bills

Mixon rushed 210 times for 814 yards and got seven touchdowns in the 2022 season.

Mixon played college football at Oklahoma and was selected by the Bengals in the 2017 draft.

In 2014 at Oklahoma, he was suspended for a season after punching a woman, Amelia Molitor, in the face. She was left with a broken jaw and cheekbone and they settled out of court three years later.

‘I’m thankful Mia and I were able to talk privately,’ Mixon said after the settlement was reached in 2017. ‘I was able to apologize to her one-to-one.

‘The way I reacted that night, that’s not me. That’s not the way I was raised. I think she understands that.

‘Talking together helps move us past what happened. I know I have to keep working to be a better person, and this is another step in that direction.’

In 2020, he signed a four-year contract extension with the Bengals worth $48m.
