Chloé Celebrated its Newly Renovated Store With Shoes and Champagne

Gabriela Hearst of Chloé had not one but two things to celebrate on the eve of the official start to New York Fashion Week.

Their SoHo boutique, which sits on the cobbled roads of Greene Street, has undergone some refreshing renovations. The newly updated store is an instant mood booster, centered around 17 sculptural art pieces—designed and crafted by New York-based makers Antoine Dumas and Benji Gavron. The red and white oak used for the mirrors, stools, and shelves are set against a mostly white box-style room. Because Chloé knows that purchasing such assets should be done in a space that feels delicate and, perhaps, even meditative.

But, the room isn’t just gorgeous. “Dumas and Gavron not only sourced reclaimed wood from New York water tanks and designed the pieces, but also made them from scratch themselves,” Hearst said. “Working with reclaimed wood can be challenging as they have to clean up old metal nails and handle other constraints. But they did it so brilliantly.” According to the creative director, this way of working mirrors the ethos of the brand and its approach to design. Materials were the starting point of the store’s design renovation, just as low-impact fabrics such as deadstock wool or recycled cashmere are the start of Chloé.

Last night’s stylishly dressed guests, including Zazi Beetz, Katie Holmes, Hari Nef, and Marisa Tomei, were seen admiring the new space with champagne in hand. Others enjoyed the lobster hor d’oeuvres floating around or sifted through the collections nestled in the very back room.

And, the entertainment for the evening? Seeing guests trying on Chloé’s low-impact sneaker, Nama. The renovation of the store was one thing to celebrate, but the shoe’s eco-friendly formula was certainly another. The sneaker, which emits 35% less greenhouse gases and consumes 80% less than its predecessor, was a popular talking point amongst the evenings. So much that one model began the evening by purchasing her own pair.
