The Chicago White Sox found a heartwarming way announce that outfielder Oscar Colas made the major league roster after they tweeted out a video of him immediately calling his mother to tell her the news.
Colas was ranked as the No. 2 prospect on the White Sox top 30 prospects list and is said be amongst the strongest arms and best arms and best power hitters in the organization.
After being told he had made the team, Colas could be seen heading to the White Sox locker room where he was congratulated by his teammates.

His mom, clearly ecstatic, proclaimed: ‘Oh my gosh! I was praying to God for that! Oh my god I’m going to cry!’

Before joining the White Sox organization, Colas played in the Japanese baseball league for the Fukuoka Softbank Hawks.
He ended up sitting out two seasons between when he last played for Softbank in 2019 and his debut with the White Hawks Triple AAA affiliate the Charlotte Knights.
The two-year layoff came after he believed he was free of his contract with the team following the 2019 season but was told the team held options in the deal for another five years that he was claimed he was unaware of.
Softbank placed him on their restricted list while he sat out the 2020 season, then declined to offer him a contract finally making him a free agent that December.
Since the White Sox had already spent majority of their money for the 2021 international bonus pool Colas decided to wait the 13 months necessary to be part of Chicago’s 2022 class.
During his one season in minor league’s Colas performed well enough to be ranked No.85 in MLB Pipeline’s Top 100 Prospects list.
Colas also has the versatility to play first base, where he spent majority of his time in Japan. He also showed the ability to throw a fastball that on occasion was clocked as high as 95 MPH and was once hailed as ‘The Cuban Ohtani.’
Seeing as though he has expressed no desire to pitch, Colas was signed strictly as an outfielder when he joined the White Sox.
He is expected to take over as the team’s everyday RF and provide an upgrade at the postion
