The Chicago Blackhawks surprised absolutely nobody on Wednesday night by selecting junior superstar Connor Bedard with the first-overall pick in the 2023 NHL Draft.
Bedard was uncontested as the projected No. 1 pick and we all knew he was destined for Chicago as soon as the Blackhawks won the NHL Draft Lottery back in May. So while the moment may have been rather anticlimactic, it was special nonetheless as it marked the beginning of a new era for the team and potentially even the league.
As soon as it became official, congratulations immediately poured in for Bedard from various Chicago-based professional sports teams, as well as other NHL and hockey organizations.
