‘Chehre’ box office collection day 2: Amitabh Bachchan’s mystery drama has a slow start at the ticket window – Times of India
According to reports on boxofficeindia.com, the film opened in theatres with an estimated collection of Rs 45 lakh and went on to add Rs 60 lakh to its kitty on Saturday. With this, the film’s total now stands at an estimated Rs 1.05 crore.
Reports state that the film earned much of its business in Delhi NCR and East Punjab.
‘Chehre’ that is a mystery drama, shared the business at the box office with the Akshay Kumar action flick ‘Bell Bottom’ that is currently in its second week of release. The film also earned much less than the Punjabi film ‘Chal Mera Putt 2’ that raked in an impressive 1.15 crore at the box office on its second Saturday.
The makers of ‘Chehre’ decided to opt-out of an OTT release and opt for a traditional theatrical release. However, several films have proven to underperform at the box office, owing to covid-19 restrictions and cinema halls running at 50% occupancy.
Going by the response of the films that were released thus far, it has been reported that producers may not release their films any time soon, not even during Diwali. Many are likely to opt for a December release with the hope that things normalise by then.
The makers of films like ‘Sooryavanshi’, ‘Gangubai Kathiawadi’, ’83 and ‘Maidaan’ have refrained from committing to any date. ‘KGF’ and ‘RRR’, on the other hand, have opted for April 2022 releases.
Aamir Khan’s ‘Laal Singh Chaddha’ and South biggie, ‘Pushpa’, are expected to probably clash on Christmas this year.
