Charles Oliveira stripped of title after failing to make weight (Video)
Charles Oliveira was stripped of the title after failing to make weight.
Charles Oliveira is no longer the UFC lightweight champion but it’s not because he lost the fight … it’s because he failed to make weight for his fight with Justin Gaethje.
On Friday morning Oliveira was the last fighter on the scale and popped at just half a pound over. He was given an additional hour to make weight, but failed to sweat out any additional pounds and was thus stripped of his title.

Per the UFC, the fight is still on, but if Oliveira wins the match he will not be eligible for the title, his opponent will if he wins.
Here’s the UFC explaining what will happen next.
If Oliveira wins, the title will remain vacant.
Oliveira was not the only fighter to miss weight on Friday. Norma Dumont also tipped the scales, also just .5 over. She was fined 30 percent for her miss.
