Charithra Chandran on the Beauty Secrets She Learned While Filming ‘Bridgerton’

“The simpler a routine is, the more likely you are to follow it,” says Charithra Chandran of her skin-care regimen, which consists of only five products. There’s Youth To The People’s cleanser and toner, followed by Huda Beauty lifting under-eye patches, lip balm, and moisturizer. “My family’s from India and generally the skin care that we use back home is all natural,” she notes. “And also, it’ll be like the same product for many purposes. That’s kind of my main beauty secret. I love a multi-purpose tool.” She’s also been focusing on treating her skin gently—a philosophy she learned from her makeup artists on set while filming Bridgerton.

“I’m really starting to see that when I take care of my skin, my makeup is just so much better,” she says, priming with Milk Makeup’s coveted Hydrogrip formula followed by Bobbi Brown’s foundation stick applied to the lower half of her face. The 25-year-old actor says she learned how to apply makeup through trial and error. Unlike her mother’s experience hunting for the right shade match, Chandran feels grateful to have an array of options to choose from. “Makeup isn’t about hiding things that you don’t like about your skin; it’s about enhancing what you already have.”

She continues with what she considers the most transformative part of her makeup routine: color-correcting—a practice she also learned from her mother. Once blended, she follows with a NARS concealer, Stila blush, multitasking Dior highlighter palette, and Kevyn Aucoin contour powder, which she also uses atop her lids. Her eyes are finished with a smudgy statement eyeliner duo by Dior and Urban Decay

Chandran, who plays Edwina Sharma in Bridgerton, considers the role a challenge, yet a dream come true. “A lot of this industry is not in your control, so I just try to focus on the things that are in my control,” she says. She’s been following some of the advice she got from the season one cast: “They’ve kind of said make sure you have all of your security measures, comfort blankets in place,” she says. For her, that’s going to therapy. “In an ideal world everyone should have access to therapy,” she adds. And though it might be surprising given that the role has come with global scrutiny, Chandran says being on the show has lessened her insecurities. “[It’s] mainly because I realized that if Shonda Rhimes and Netflix don’t think of my skin, my body, and my face as a hinderance, then it’s clearly not,” she says. And with a swipe of a long-lasting lip trio and a bit of TikTok’s beloved Maybelline mascara, her foolproof night-out look is complete.
