Chadwick Boseman honoured by Black Panther co-stars Lupita Nyong’o, Michael B Jordan, Marvel stars on first death anniversary; read emotional tributes – Times of India

The actor, best known for his role as Marvel’s Black Panther, and who also played Black icons like Jackie Robinson and James Brown on-screen, passed away on August 28, 2020. He was 43. According to reports, Boseman passed away after a secret four-year battle with colon cancer.

Boseman’s passing came as a shock to many as the star had chosen to keep his cancer diagnosis private. It was reported that only his family and small group friends were aware of him undergoing surgeries and chemotherapy. Over 4 years, the actor took on physically demanding roles that including bulking up for his superhero stint as King of Wakanda in his stand-alone film and two ‘Avengers’ films – Infinity War and Endgame.

The news of his demise even came as a shock to ‘Black Panther’ director Ryan Coogler and director of ‘Da 5 Bloods’ Spike Lee, who said publicly that they were unaware of his medical condition.

To mark his death anniversary, Lupita Nyong’o, who played Nakia, Boseman’s love interest in ‘Black Panther’ penned an emotional tribute that read, “I did not know that I could miss both his laughter and his silence in equal measure. I do. I do… One year after his passing, the memory of @chadwickboseman remains this alive in me.”

Fellow ‘Black Panther’ costar Michael B. Jordan shared a his favourite photo with Boseman and wrote, “Not a day goes by bro… Love and miss you but I know you still with us.”

Boseman’s ‘Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom’ co-star Viola Davis also took to her handle to remember the actor and shared a behind-the-scenes still from the film and wrote, “This day last year you left this earth and us. Man, you are missed!!!”

Chadwick made his final on-screen appearance in the Marvel series ‘What If…?’. The actor was set to return as T’Challa in ‘Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.’ However, following his demise, the makers changed the script to honour his memory.
