Center Jason Kelce returns to the Eagles for next season after ‘much thought’ over retirement

Jason Kelce will return to the Philadelphia Eagles next season after ‘much thought’ over his future as he warns: ‘I ain’t f***ing done yet!’

Philadelphia Eagles center Jason Kelce has chosen to play another NFL season, just a month after he and his brother, Travis, were the first pair of siblings to ever play each other in a Super Bowl, following reports of potential retirement.

‘I have put much thought into whether it makes sense to play another season,’ the 35-year-old tweeted on Monday. ‘After talking it over with my wife and many other friends and family, I have decided to return for another year. Thank you to all my supporters and detractors for fueling me, I ain’t f***ing done yet!’

Last season, Kelce started 17 games during the Eagles’ route to Super Bowl LVII in Arizona, recovering one fumble and going for -8 yards. The sixth-round pick of the 2011 draft has played his entire career in Philadelphia and has started every game for the team since the start of the 2015 season.

He is 13 game shy from matching David Akers for the most games in Eagles history, although defensive end Brandon Graham could beat him to the franchise record, as he’s played two more games than Kelce and has resigned for next season.

Technically a free agent at the moment, Kelce can’t officially re-join the Eagles until Wednesday when the new league year starts.

Philadelphia Eagles center Jason Kelce, 35, is returning to the team for the 2022-23 season

Kelce, a six-time Pro Bowler and five-time All-Pro, won Super Bowl LII with the Eagles in 2018, and nearly came close to winning another ring, if it weren’t for his younger brother and the Kansas City Chiefs.

Other than playing against Travis, this year’s big game saw Kelce face Chiefs coach Andy Reid, who drafted Kelce to Philadelphia nearly 12 years ago.

The Cleveland, Ohio, native has been contemplating retirement for several seasons but has chosen to follow the advice of the late Howard Mudd, his former offensive line coach: ‘When in doubt, don’t.’

The Eagles front office voiced its desire for the offensive veteran to return, with head coach Nick Sirianni even having a keg of beer delivered to Kelce’s house shortly after the Super Bowl loss, in hopes it would encourage him to play again.
